Beach bars and waterside restaurants

Must Dos: beach bars and waterside restaurants

Looking for the most beautiful city beaches in Vienna? Find our insider tips for the best beach bars and waterside restaurants here and enjoy the soothing heat in the city.

Vienna is not directly located at sea, but compensates with its lively and beach-fitting vibe. There are numerous waterside restaurants with their very own special charm. You can choose whether you would like to feel the sand between your toes or would rather just relax, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.   The classic amongst the Viennese beach bars is “Strandbar Hermann” located in the 3rd district. Its large and open area invites you to relax on a cozy deck chair and to listen to chill beats while having great cocktails and a bite to eat. Strolling along the Donaukanal you will find various little bars, encouraging you to take a break from the busy city. “Tel Aviv Beach” lures with its international and Middle Eastern cuisine and its lovely and comfortable deck chairs. “Adria Wien”, one of the most beautiful locations along the Donaukanal, ranks fifth place in the EU-Ranking of the most beautiful city beaches and definitely worth a visit. “Sand in the City” as our third recommendation, is located near the Viennese Stadtpark and complements its wide culinary offer with two beach volleyball courts.

The best waterside restaurants in Vienna

If you enjoy spending time farther away from the inner city, definitely try out our recommended waterside restaurants: “The Vienna Beach Club” not only provides a large arranged beach (pier included), but also more than 800 places to sit or lounge to complete your holiday feeling.  If you happen to be a wakeboard enthusiast, “wake_up” located on Vienna’s Donauinsel will make your heart beat faster. But even if you are not interested in trying their wakeboard lift, you can enjoy some time on the terrace with some drinks and delicious food. “La Crêperie” works more on the romantic side. Not only do their sweet Crêpes taste delightful, but also their view makes it worth your while! In the 17th district you will find “Klee am Hanslteich”. It is found further towards the top end of the price spectrum, but is still worth visiting. Located directly at the bank of a small pond it is well visited and loved by couples. You can combine a romantic date with a walk on the forest track through the Schottenwald, which ends after 3 kilometers on the Kreuzeichenwiese.
