Apart from various sights, which are a Must-See on your stay, we recommend to explore Vienna off the beaten tourist path. Take a day off and enjoy the gorgeous green side of our beautiful city. The weather in autumn in Vienna could still be very warm and sunny and is perfect to grab your sneakers to visit one of the nine hiking paths through and around the city.  You can choose from a walking distance between 7,2 km to 15 km, with a duration between 2,5 to 5 hours. Don’t get scared – we really recommend to spend one day on a path to every of our guests.

City Hiking path in autumn in Vienna

City Hiking path 1 is a beautiful uphill walk through vineyards and wooded hills rewarded by a marvellous view of Vienna and the Danube. If you are more into exploring the Vienna woods, we recommend  to choose City Hiking path 3, which takes you from Neuwaldegg to the wooded peak of Hameau. The longest hike is located in the south of Vienna – the City Hiking path 7 leads you through Vienna’s southern parts, past Kurpark Oberlaa, the Laaer Wald and the Böhmischer Prater. If you are more into walking in the middle of the city, you can enjoy City Hiking path 9, a rewarding walk for the whole family through the Prater recreation park. No matter which path you choose, they are properly kept and secured regularly, disposing of a high level of infrastructure for your convenience.

Things to do on a rainy day in Vienna

Even when Vienna shows its rainy and cold side, you are not compelled to stay in your apartment all day long. The Austrian National Library is the biggest library in the country and always worth a visit. It offers permanent exhibitions and theme-oriented changing exhibitions that show the public the valuable books and objects from the ten specialised Departments of the Library. You can also visit the library with your children – they offer a special program for them. If you are more into the cozy kind of rainy days, we highly recommend to stop by one of the various old coffee houses in Vienna. Enjoy the special feeling on an afternoon without hurry. Typical old viennese coffee houses are Café Hawelka (don’t miss to try the famous Buchteln!), Café Diglas right behind St. Stephen’s Cathedral, Café Central near Hofburg Palace or Café Landtmann next to Burgtheater.
